A Letter From The Author:

My belly dance photographic journey began 10 years ago while experiencing this ancient dance’s healing and empowering qualities. As a photographer and belly dance student, I searched for a belly dance photography book that honored and represented women in all their glory and greatness. I never found such a book; eventually, I discovered that I would be the one to create it.

In my book, Belly Dance, Celebrating the Sacred Feminine, women share their dance and wisdom through the images and through their prose and poetry, which address a broad range of topics relevant for all women. You will read about why belly dance is considered the mother of all dance and how it connects us with our divinity, how our bodies communicate-- constantly guiding us to healtheir and happier selves . . . and many more areas that touch our lives as women.

I have been honored and blessed by Christiane Northrup, M.D. who has written my book's foreword and by Jalaja Bonheim, Jean Shinoda Bolen, M.D., Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Ph.D., and Alice Walker for allowing me to quote from their books.

My book is an invitation to inspire and encourage you to meet your Goddess within on your journey.

With love,

Martha Elena Burns

"They say a picture tells a thousand words. However, when I look at the pictures of these dancers, I always hear one word, but hear it a thousand times. That word is Goddess."
